Glass and Oak Staircases

The oak and glass staircase is a sophisticated, uncluttered design that will work well in contemporary or traditional homes. As it is a combination of both materials there are many bespoke options you can consider.

Benefits Of Combining Glass and Oak

There are many benefits when using these materials, including the unique combination of oak and glass. For example, oak is a very hard wood so it is strong, durable and resistant to scratches, dents and general wear and tear. Oak also has more options for personalisation as you can stain oak to any colour you want, to match flooring for example.

When the sturdiness and design of oak are balanced with the elegance and sophistication of contemporary glass panels you can create the perfect bespoke staircase. In addition to design benefits, toughened glass is also very safe and secure. It provides a durable option that can easily be maintained with minimal cleaning required on your part.

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS WHEN DESIGNING A GLASS AND OAK STAIRCASE?

With the customisation options of glass and its practicality, it’s no wonder that this design has become so popular. From a user standpoint, there is an endless selection to choose from when designing your staircase. Our bespoke design service will help you find the right solution for your home with an array of options to choose from, including newel posts or handrails. Below we have outlined some of the options you will have.

Handrails & Base Rails

There are two main choices when selecting your oak handrail and base rails. Ungrooved which is used when attaching the glass panel with glass clamps. Whereas, grooved allows for the toughened glass to be slotted directly into the groove.

Glass Panels

Glass panels are used between the handrail and base rail to create a sleek finish. You can choose between large straight edge panels or for a more detailed design you can choose a curved finish. If you have selected the ungrooved handrails for your glass balustrade and will be using glass clamps there are a number of finishes to choose from, nickel or chrome for example.

Newel Posts

The oak newel post is a sturdy central support in the design of staircase renovation. It provides an elegant finishing touch for landings, mezzanines and any other area with ease. This can come as either half or full-length options depending on how much space you need to be covered by your steps.

We recently had a new staircase fitted by Design My Stairs, the reason being to meet the latest building regulations which ensure that small children cannot get their heads stuck and also gave the property a modern appearance. The work excelled in all five areas, the tradesmen were extremely good at their job and new exactly what was needed, nothing was too much trouble. The work extended over three days and on each occasion the area was thoroughly cleaned and tools stored safely. There were one or two very minor snags which were rectified immediately.I have no hesitation in recommending Ian and his team if you need a professional staircase renovation.
