On a recent theatre weekend visit to Manchester, I discovered an amazing artisan bakery right in the middle of the city centre, called Gail’s. The scent of coffee and freshly baked croissants was enticing and the opportunity to have a closer look at a superbly created steel staircase was an opportunity not to be missed.
Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by a chic and contemporary ambiance that defines the cafe areas. The interior design seamlessly integrates elements of the original building. Notably, reclaimed bricks have found new life as stunning cake counters, the flooring has been beautifully refurbished, and even the light fixtures elegantly illuminate the space using recycled orange peel. The staircase itself is centre piece of industrial stair art, using reinforcing black steel bars woven in to a simple horizontal pattern and capped with a traditional oak handrail. The stair design is formidable and blends into the environment perfectly and I was captivated by the amazing breakfast at hand as well as the surrounding architecture. If Gail’s are reading this, can we need have a bakery on the Wirral? Food is delicious!
